Your willingness to fully submit these areas to the Lord is the first thing you have to come to terms with in your mindset. Continuing to develop and increase your love for Jesus Christ through daily scripture reading, personal conversation and fervent prayer is a focal point for overcoming any level of stronghold that may dwell within you. From my personal experience the Word of God has to dominate your life in order to build faith and mental strength to defeat any bondage. Here is how you win:
1. The Word of God Has To Dominate Our Lives!
When the Word of God dominates our lives, everything we see begins to align with how God sees it. Our souls become purer over time because they are full of revelation and the power of God's written word is over-flowing inside of it. These are very important keys because lust or anything immoral cannot dwell inside of us for long if we fill ourselves with the Word each and everyday. Our subconscious mind is essentially apart of our soul so whatever you put in it dominates your mind's memory bank. So if you are continuously struggling with thoughts that you know are abnormal then you must allow the Word of God to be seen by your eyes diligently and on a consistent basis so that your subconscious mind can align with the words of scripture.
Psalms 1: 1-3
"Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do."
2. Know What Your Weaknesses Are!
Over time once you've learned the different areas that are weaker and easier for you to fall into, it's helps for you in developing your plan for overcoming different levels of strongholds. Knowing in your mind where you're weak at helps you to better prepare for when the same situations arise in the future. When different situations suddenly come up, you will already have your list of options in your head to better fight the adversary back each time. This can only be strengthen first through your own willingness to overcome it. If your willingness is very low then most situations will likely cause you to fall back into the same things and in return the stronghold will become even bigger. But always remember that no matter how strong a bondage is in your life, it cannot compete with the supernatural power of God.
"So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit."
2 Timothy 2:22
"Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights."
1 Corinthians 6:18-20
"Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body."
3. Use Your God Given Weapons!
Each time you deliberately take a small step(sin) off of the right path with God, the adversary will try to get you to justify your immoral actions within your own mind and in return weakens your fear of God if it's not repented of. We have to always use our God given weapons and not merely our own human reasoning for overcoming things. Listed below shows that the bible has numerous weapons and armor that the Lord has given us to be more than conquerors which he also states in his word. The sword of the Spirit is powerful when the Word of God dominates your life because you can always combat whatever the enemy is telling you at any given moment with scriptures. Prayer is a powerful weapon because it gives God legal authorization to help you. When we don't diligently pray to God then he can't legally help us (see 2 Corinthians 4:4).
"Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage."
